Interviewing goals

The Royal Academy of Engineering wanted to mark the second annual UNESCO World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development with a series of videos showcasing the vital role that engineers play in addressing the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

It asked Happen to film a series of interviews with some of the speakers at its Global Grand Challenges Summit. We used a backdrop to give the videos a consistent look and filmed b-roll of the interviewees walking into shot, holding a large printed card of their SDG and looking off-camera, to make the videos more visually interesting and cover the edits. We also filmed in 4K, to allow edits to tighter frames without a loss of picture quality. Further context was provided by onscreen text.

Interviews are a great way to take advantage of a conference or event, creating lots of video content at little cost. They require the interviewees to be put at ease and the questions to be properly thought through, so all the points you need are covered. This project, of course, also required careful scheduling.
